Ive received 2 proposals so far for a replacement heat pump in my 12 year old home. One of the HVAC contractors spent 10 minutes here. He measured the air handler, but that was the extent of his analysis. He gave me prices on 4 different systems on the spot.
The other contractor spent about an hour and a half and measured all the rooms, windows, vent registers, and closely examined the ductwork under the house. He created a detailed sketch of the house and told me he would get me prices in a couple of days.
I think I understand why the one contractor spent so much time. Probably to confirm the size of the heat pump I had was the correct size? Given I told him everything was working well before the system failed, was that really necessary, or could he have just priced the tonnage I currently have?
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
