Hi everyone, Im probably going to sound like and idiot as I explain this, but here goes: I have a ranch house with a walk out basement. The basement has a closet with my air handler (one zone, returns throughout the house on both levels). We had an hvac company move the air handler from one closet to another - about 8 feet over. They rebuilt the return plenum, added a drain pan and AprilAir filter to the return.
The closet now has louvered/slotted doors, but my question is, should we install a return from the plenum to the outside of the closet that the return is in? The closet is in a conditioned family room space. In the closet that the air handler was in previously, there was a grill on the outside of the closet, and a hole in the plenum, but no duct in between.
With the new closet, weve left space in the drywall for a grill (maybe 14x14?), but Im wondering if its necessary or good for the system to have it.
Thanks.
