I'm an HVAC novice so I was looking for some feedback regarding a new home construction build. I have a 3200 sq foot two story home that I'm having built. Home is a rectangle footprint with more living space upstairs than downstairs since there is a garage built into the home that covers a portion of the downtairs area and it's not air conditioned in that space.
On all home builds for my floor plan the home builder was using QTY 2 of the following units: Lennox, Quantum Coil Heat Pump, Merit, 2.5 Ton, 14 SEER, 1 Stage, 208/230V, 1 Phase, 60Hz, ML14XP1-030-230. These are 2.5 ton units and had 1 for upstairs, 1 for downstairs. Twin exact identical units (towers) outside on pads.
There has been some sort of issue with the contractor they were using primarily with lead times and my house was caught in that mess. I got word they installed our AC this weekend so I went up there to check it out. Come to find out what they have moved to now are Trane units. These are QTY 1 of a Trane 3 Ton 16 SEER XR16 36000 BTU Single Stage Heat Pump 4TWR6036H1000A and QTY 1 of a Trane 2 Ton 16 SEER XR16 24000 BTU Single Stage Heat Pump 4TWR6024H1000A.
I know the 2 units they installed still equal 5 tons like the previous units which were the Lennox 2.5 ton (upstairs and downstairs QTY 1 each) but the Trane units they installed 1 being a 3 ton and 1 being a 2 ton, does this matter? Is this a red flag for anyone? I'm really hoping that this wasn't done because that's what the new AC contractor had on the shelf so they just threw it together this way vs. being what my home was engineered for.
I have posed the question but anticipate them saying "yeah everything is perfect"
I was looking for some feedback to see that A) the units are comparable and B) does it matter they went from QTY 2 Lennox 2.5 ton units to a Trane Xr combination of 3 ton and 2 ton? I see that Trane makes a 2.5 ton unit for the XR series and my hunch is these are what they had in stock so they just put them in.
Any and all feedback would be appreciated. I just don't want to get screwed somehow because of my lack of AC/HVAC knowledge.
Thanks all! Appreciate the help!
