Hello!
I bought a home and came to find out it's been running on an R22 outdoor air conditioning system. The evap coil is newer and was replaced to an R410A, but still running the R22 refrigerant. I haven't had any issues at all with it. Just figured I'd have someone come out for cleaning. The HVAC contractor came out and is telling me the coil is leaking - I don't see any leak just some condensation. He is saying we need to replace both units because of the leak causing the evap to freeze up and the two systems fighting each other with two different refrigerants causing acidity... hmmm ... Cold air always blows when it runs, so confused about the freezing up part.
I am aware that when it is time to replace the outside unit I will have to replace the coil as it's already run with the R22... But am I missing something or is he trying to pull a fast one over on me?
Any info is super appreciated. Thank you!
