Hello there! We just moved into a 1970s home with propane baseboard heating. The electricity rates here are much cheaper than propane, so we are looking to make the switch to electric heat. Currently we have an a/c unit with full duct work and an air handler in the attic. I had a guy come out and look at changing to electric heat and he said he could add 10kw heat strips to heat our home.
After doing some research, I have read/ learned the following:
1. Heat strips are inefficient and will cost a lot to heat the home.
2. We don't have an a/c unit with a heat pump
3. 10kw in region 3 won't be enough to heat the home. (1500 sq. feet)
4. Do they even make standalone electric furnaces anymore? They seem to be hard to find.
I would love any guidance in this potential switch. Thank you so much!
