I’ve had two estimates on a new system and got somewhat conflicting info. Which one is honest.
I have 2406 sq/ft single level.
Current system is 19 yrs old 4 ton10seer Payne system.
One 18in return air duct on ceiling under the system with a 1-20-30 filter. One one side of home.
1st quote was $**** for a 14 seer single stage with matching 80/20 furnace. Said another return air on other side of home wouldn’t do anything except quiet it down some. Said he could sell me more but I would never see a return on the cost or much else…
2nd quote was from an Amana dealer
$*****for a 5 ton , 16seer, variable stage compressor. 96% furnace, add return air on other side of house to match the other side. Said it would help efficiency and improve temperature balance and improve humidity control.
My previous home had a return air duct in every room. Was quiet. Have if a balanced return air seems better to me.
Next concern. I’ve read it’s best to not have a unit to big as it can cool too quickly and not dehumidify properly. The above are very different setups I suppose.
I hope someone can enlighten me so I can ask the right questions and narrow down what I want and need.
Much thanks!
