Carrier Heat Pump, its about 8 years old. In the past few weeks we have gotten a blip in the power grid, not enough to reset clocks or anything like that, its a quick blip where the lights in the house blink but clocks don't reset, nothing happens really just a quick blip. Then almost immediately my Carrier heat pump becomes really loud. The condenser/compressor outside unit is really loud. Normally its super quiet, its the Greenspeed upper-end model. My guess is, the heat pump electronics or compressor really doesn't like the power blip. I think if the power went out and stayed out say 5 minutes or more, the heat pump wouldn't get loud, it would start back up and run quiet. But its the blip of power that seems to cause the issue. I have a whole-home surge protector on the main power where it comes in at the meter base so thinking its not a surge, but just a blip of lost power and its super quick. I actually noticed that the blip turned a window unit off that I have in my shop, and my shop is on its own service and meter completely separate from the home (I built my shop years before the home was built) so not sure but the utility power seems to be the culprit. Also, a capacitor checked out a little low the last time the heat pump was serviced so the technician changed out the capacitor. They work on commission so I imagine the capacitator really didn't need changing but he did it anyway. I don't think that's related but I don't remember hearing our heat pump get loud when the power blipped before the capacitor was changed. I don't know where to even start. I asked a HVAC tech that I'm friends with and he said not much could be done until something actually breaks because trying to discover an issue that's intermittent is not easy he said. Anyone got any ideas of what I can get tested or looked at and/or what may be the cause for a loud outdoor unit when the power blips but doesn't go out?
