I am enrolled in the Socal Edison Summer Savings Plan. They install a box on your AC compressor so they can remotely shut it off to relieve stress on the power grid during peak power usage. The problem is if we aren't home to manually turn off the blower it continues to run filling the house with hot attic air (ducts are in the attic). That's usually an hour or so but can be as long as four hours. Even a few minutes can raise the temp 1-2 degrees. Socal Edison says there's little they can do and recommended I buy a smart switch plug adapter so I can turn it off remotely. I've read that's not a good idea because it can harm HVAC electronics. I'm looking for a work around to fix this. Is a smart thermostat a possibility? I appreciate any help with this. I have a 5 year old Lennox Elite forced air furnace/AC unit.
