Compressor Overheating?

Hello, first post. Looking for some education.

2014 Trane units
5 ton, 2 stage compressor (4TTR6061 with 4TXCD063 coil)
Variable speed gas furnace (TUD2C100H9V5VA)

Our thermostat will show that the system should be cooling, but nothing (inside/outside) is on.

The drain line is clean. No condensation on either float valve. No liquid in the pan. The outside coils have been washed thoroughly.

I am not looking to do anything myself but understand the system better. We have an AC repairman coming (again) today, but I feel like we have been ripped off in the past by more than one AC company.

If I turn the system on, the outside compressor will come on for 10-20 seconds, then shut off. To me, this appears to happen when the system is 'hot' (my best guess is something is overheating). The thermostat will display that the system is cooling, but as mentioned nothing is on. If the system stays off for a while, it will eventually begin to run properly again for a while (until it overheats?). We had an AC guy check the system on Saturday. He indicated low and high pressure readings were normal. He also stated the amperage was normal. He confirmed no liquid in the pan or on the float valves inside. At the time he visited, the system had been off the entire night, so it was not overheated (IMO). Thus, it turned on and functioned properly while he was here. We paid him, and he left.

Waiting on another visit today. Is there something I can research, read, etc. another likely culprit, safety/heat switch on the compressor itself, ...?
