Hello,
I purchased a house in 2020 that is a ranch on slab with HVAC on one end of L-shaped house and bedrooms on opposite end. Home inspector showed no air to 2 of three bedrooms at supply registers. Seller had HVAC contractor install 12-inch booster fan in the 10x10 trunk line just upstream of the bedrooms. Airflow much improved and house maintains temperatures well. I know a lot of pro's dislike booster fans; but it seems to do the job. Only two issues: Noise & no booster operation in HEAT mode. Heat isn't critical, since cooler bedrooms are acceptable... however I have to rebalance the system seasonally because airflow is so different between HEAT & COOL.
NOISE: I researched a lot of noise control options, and decided the most economical solution to try first would be some insulated flex duct on the intake and exhaust of the booster fan.
OPERATION: Right now there is a single relay running off Common and "G" Terminal on thermostat wire. I have an unused wire in the furnace that could be tied to a 24V trigger for the blower, but the only contractor that returned my call said it was better to add another relay for the HEAT option...
The air handler is a Lennox Elite G61MPV-60C-090-10. It has an EAC connection, but it appears to be Line voltage rather than 24V for a relay.
I live in Southern GA, and nobody wants to tackle this problem for me. Any tips on what I can tell them or ask them, so I can find a pro to get this system tweaked to run a bit better?
