apparently this unit left the factory with two lines on the condenser coil in contact. over time a hole eventually formed from vibration.i will try to attach picture. the hole is in copper very near where it transitions to aluminum. both appear to be about 3/8". a couple of inches the other way the copper is reduced to 1/8". my local contractor said it cannot be repaired and wants to replace entire condenser coil. the piece of copper with hole appears to be thicker than normal tubing. my question is can the copper be cut before hole and aluminum after hole and then be soldered back together. another option is cutting copper after hole and again at the 1/8" tubing and then solder copper back together. the copper transition piece is approximately 3" long. i dont see how shortening it will make a difference. anybody have experience in doing this?
