We are building a new home and have invested in new high efficiency furnaces which are installed in our attic (live in Texas). The HVAC contractor has installed two 3" PVC pipe vents/unit through the roof with 180 deg elbows (intake and exhaust) on each vent pipe. These pipes are not very attractive and I had requested that they install a concentric vent kit which is more attractive and only requires one roof penetration/unit. The HVAC contractor has responded to my request with the following:
"We no longer use these kits. We had a lot of problems with them including units not working properly. Most contractors I know have gone away from them because of all the issues."
Are HVAC contractors moving away from concentric vent kits and if so, why?
