Help with New Zoned AC System for Fla. Townhome

Hello, and thanks for looking at my post. I need some advice.

I have a 2 story townhome in Florida. The current HVAC system is:

- A 15 year old 2 ton Carrier heat pump split system
- 2 zones via a Honeywell 3 zone controller, and 2 simple digital thermostats.
- The system has two dampers and a overflow return.
- No gas heat.

I expect to live here for 10-15 years, so I would like to buy something decent and efficient. I am looking into replacement because given its age, it can't last that much longer and I prefer to be able to do this on my own time frame rather than in an emergency situation when it fails out of the blue.

For efficiency sake, I would like a 2 speed or variable speed compressor, and an air handler with a variable speed fan motor (perhaps ECM). But....... I am not sure if that type of equipment will work with my Honeywell zoned system, or if I need to replace that zone controller as well. I do intend to replace the damper motors since they are 15 years old.

Noise (db level) is a concern because the compressor is located in my walled in patio and directly below my bedroom window.

I guess new thermostats might be needed, but I don't need a hi tech thermostat app controlled thermostat unless that would be fine if advisable.

My other choice is to just but a decent SEER single speed compressor and single speed air handler and just forget about getting something quieter and more efficient.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!
