Things Every Homeowner Knows About Hiring HVAC Companies: Whole Home Humidifier with Woodstove

I'd like a whole home humidifier. In the winter we generally heat with a wood stove but also supplement with forced air.

It seems most whole home humidifiers attach to the furnace. What options do I have when I'm not using the furnace? Will any humidifiers work when the furnace is just on fan mode? Would I be better off with a standalone unit?
