Hello,
Two years ago, with the very helpful advice of forum member "Teddy Bear", I installed a Ultra Aire 98 in my full daylight basement. Hopefully Teddy Bear can chime in here. The unit has worked perfectly until a couple weeks ago the unit maybe sounded a little louder than normal and I noticed my humidity seemed to be higher than expected. By louder I mean the compressor's low frequency "purring" noise. Basement was 70 degrees with 54% humidity according to the control units on the wall for both the dehumidifier and furnace thermostat. We had a warm spell for about a week and my gas furnace did not run at all during that time. I am almost certain it was warm and humid enough for it to produce condensation. I believe during the last 2 winters the unit would come on and bring down humidity during warm spells.
I checked the clear condensate hose and there was not any water dripping from the dehumidifier like I normally see and the water that was in the condensate hose was definitely old, like no new water had been run through it in a couple months. It had that thick white/creamy look. I know the compressor kicks on, at least I hear it purring, and I know I do not have an airflow problem. I checked the wire connections and no problem. With it being only 2 years old is it likely that I have a compressor/charge problem or is it hopefully something electrical? Maybe I am out of my mind and it is just too cool and dry in my basement at this time of year but I am convinced it should have been removing some humidity.
Finding knowledgeable service techs for these things is difficult at least where I live so I would like to invest a little of my time trying to diagnose some of the easy stuff. Over the years I have paid close attention to my HVAC systems so I do have some familiarity.
Thanks,
Mark
