Return Air Grille Media Filters

I see a lot of posts asking about media filters but I don't recall anyone recommending the media filters for the return air grille's. I had media filters at my old house at the return side of the air handler and was amazed at the amount of dust I saw in the return ducts when my system was being replaced. I use the return grille media filters in my new house (3 return grilles). They fit snugly and seem to work great and prevent dust in the return ducts. A bit expensive but they do last a long time. Are there any problems I'm not seeing in using these or is it that maybe they are not being recommended because some grilles can't use them. They seem like they would fit into most grilles that will accept a 1" filter if the grilles are deep enough?
