I have a BOSCH 2 ton IDS 2.0 ccASHP installed, and considering adding the Field Installable Electric 5Kw heat kit as a backup. The system is new, but has not been run for an entire winter season yet. So far it has kept pace with heating needs, but..what if one day it doesn't.
The Air Handler is fed with a 240V 15amp circuit off the panel. Does the 5kw electric heat kit require a separate feed from the panel, or can it be single point fed with the existing wiring? If using the existing wiring, does the breaker in the main panel need to be upgraded to 30amp?
