Good morning all!
We are in process of getting bids to replace our furnace/ac/hot water heater. We live in central IL and keep our house at about 64-66 in winter and 67-69 in summer.
They are original to the home (installed 2004) House is about 4000sq ft including the finished basement. Amana 95% furnace, and 4 ton AC unit. It appears the furnace is currently 92k BTU's. Only area that is maybe a bit too warm in summer are the 2 bedrooms upstairs (1.5 story house). Not really an issue as our kids haven't complained and they are teenagers so you know they would.
COmpany 1.-we've had work done by them on plumbing, and my in laws have used them for a couple of houses (high end builds/remodels 600-1000k houses). They are an Amana shop. Quote a 96% unit dual stage (AM9C961205DN) 120k btu, and 4 ton 16seer (ASX16048) Also April Aire RP700 Humidifier.
Company 2. He's a 1-2 man shop. Came recommended from locals. Uses Ruud equipment. Asked questions about comfort of the house temp wise etc, and believes a 120kBTU unit is too big for the current return air based on his calculations. Feels a 100k unit is sufficient based on his calculations.
Company 3. Waiting for him to complete his bid (tomorrow). Probably uses Goodman. Highly recommended locally and we had used him at another house. Was extremely reasonable and quick and clean.
My question is how worried should we be that Company 1 didn't do any sort of calculations for sizing etc and didn't really ask about the current set up or how well it worked. Sorry if these questions seem dumb or low end.
thank you!
