questioning tech on 5 head minisplit

Ok, first of all, I'm a retired GC and have worked around the old(er) school HVAC for 20+ years. We had a company come out to service the system because DEAR wife wants to make sure that everything is working as it should. (just bought the home) According to the tech, he says that he needs to remove some 410 to two lines one because they are shorter than than 25' and he needs to add 410 to three other lines because they are longer than 25'. He wants to charge us $x for each ounce to remove and then charge us $x for each ounce he adds, plus his time and etc. My question is that does each of the lines/heads have a separate volume of refrigerant that does not ever mix with the other lines? I can understand that if each head was a single zone system, that could/could be true. My brain says no but from looking at the condenser specks online, it gives a total line length for the given charge in the system, which I can understand that if the total length of lines are longer Also, no guages were ever hooked up. All he did was put a thermo in the outdoor condenser and on the indoor exhaust. He never measured the intake at each indoor head, I saw that. I wasn't around to watch him inspect outside but the security camera was.... ;~)

He also tried to tell DW that the system is antiquated(4 years old according to previous owner) and the new rage is a single lineset with a branch block?(more $$$, for new lines) He also said 2 of the heads are too small (9K) and the manufacturer says minimum is 12K but when I look at the specs, it says that our condenser can run smaller heads(6+6+9+9+15 as an example). My understanding is that the heads that are hooked up must total more than 12k(6+6, or 6+9, or just an single 18k head would work, if I understand it correctly.
He did leave a Mitsubishi pamphlet that had some real nice recessed ceiling heads. One fits style between 16" joists (insert drool here)
Thanks
