A couple of years ago I had a new high-end Trane heat pump installed. It's working fine, but I have hot/cold spots in the house (did before the new unit too). One company had a look and said I need a bunch of duct work. The return isn't big enough, the ducts aren't big enough, etc. They and offered to give me an estimate for $500, which I could apply to the job if they do it. That rubs me the wrong way. There is no way an estimate for a 2200 sf single story house would take $500 worth of effort. They're trying to prevent me from getting other estimates, I think.
I would like to hire someone qualified who has no interest in selling me anything to do an assessment of what work needs to be done. I could then use that to request bids. How can I find someone like that? I'm in Chandler, AZ (Southeast suburb of Phoenix) if that matters.
