I have a 20 plus year old goodman/jantroll r22 unit that just keeps on ticking. I keep waiting for it to die but it just keeps going. I work on boats for a living so I know how bad aluminum corrodes in salt air as well as how easily it can be punctured/damaged. I figure this old unit with copper coils has lasted this long that I should try and find a new unit made with copper coils to replace it. It just seems that aluminum is to soft and difficult to repair vs copper. Regardless I like copper and want to stay with copper if I can.
Does anyone make a new 2 speed heat pump with copper coils in both the condenser and air handler A or N coil? I dont care which brand as long as it has copper throughout. I live on the ms gulf coast about half a mile from the beach and need a 3.5 ton unit to heat and cool nearly 2000 sqft of living space. If there are more than one manufacture making such units can someone who knows the pros and cons offer insight as to what I should consider before choosing a brand. I want to spend the least amount possible but I dont want to cut corners. I dont mind spending more if the extra cost equates to better quality longer term trouble free service.
Whats the chances I will get 20 plus years out of the new unit I buy like I did with this 99 model Jantrol thats still chugging along? From what I have read it sounds unlikely. This old unit sounds and looks like crap but keeps my house 68 when its 100 outside and other than failed cap's sequencers and one blower motor has been solid. I clean the a coil each season and wash off the condenser fins a few times a year. People can say what they want about these inexpensive units like mine but its been reliable. I wouldnt hesitate to buy goodman again if they make a copper coil 2 speed heat pump still.
