Attic ventilation (for whole house fan)

Background: my house is about 2500 sqft with an insulated 4’ tall attic. I have soffit vents around the entire roof, but no other attic ventilation (no ridge or gable vents).

I just installed a QuietCool whole house fan that pushes up to 7000 CFM of air. According to QuietCool, I need 9.3 sqft of attic ventilation. I *should* have enough ventilation just from my soffit vents, but I’m still worried that it’s not enough when the fan is on high. That’s partly because there’s not much open space between the insulation and the roof near the soffit vents.

So I’m thinking about installing a 36” x 12” louvered vent at the end of the house roof, just above the roof of my deck. That nook between the house and deck roof is only 18” high, but it’s pretty well protected by a 18” overhang. That vent would provide about 3 sqft of air flow, which should help. (You can see some pics below)

Question 1: is adding a single gable vent like this going to cause any attic ventilation problems? My novice guess is that cold air should still enter the attic from the soffit vents and some of it would exit via the single gable vent. That seems like a good thing, no?

Question 2: the deck has its own uninsulated “attic”, with a peaked roof and soffit vents on both sides. If I needed more exhaust space, I could theoretically cut a (screened) hole to connect the house attic to the deck attic. The fan would then blow some air through that hole where it would probably have an easier time exiting via the deck soffit vents. But this seems more iffy to me. Not sure if it's going to short circuit something in the attic airflow.

Any advice would be much appreciated!
