Upsizing roof vent for kitchen range hood?

Hi everyone,

I want to get a sanity check on if there are advantages or disadvantages to this... My builder is recommending that we install an 8" roof vent for our new kitchen hood. The wall-mounted range hood is 900 CFM with a 6" round exhaust. It will run straight up into my attic and after 2 elbows, it will exit up through the roof. Total duct run of about 6 feet.

He recommended going with an 8" roof vent instead of 6" since the venting will involve going from 6" round to rectangular duct (through the kitchen ceiling) and then back to 6" round, plus the two bends. What I'm not sure of is if only the roof vent will be 8" or if he's planning on making all the attic duct in 8". I have to double check that with him still.

I didn't think anything of it, until speaking to my roofer yesterday, who said that he's never heard mixing and matching sizes like that. Also after taking to a buddy of mine who had his kitchen done, but a bigger kitchen than mine, his builder installed a make-up system. My builder said because my kitchen is small (10'x12"), it's not needed. I don't want to question his advice, but my range is gas and my hood is pretty beefy. We didn't start construction yet, but my roofer is set to install the roof vent next week, so I really need some advice before then if possible.

Thanks!
