Hi All,
BLUF: I have a Carrier, single-speed gas furnace in a house I recently bought. The unit is about 10 years old. It is throwing error code 33, which is temp limit. After the error, it cools down and then goes back to heating, rinse and repeat. The output air gets up to about 100F above than the intake air. Once that happens, the limit trips and the flames shut.
Ive had three different companies out to diagnose and work on the unit, but the issue remains unresolved. Before spending more money on diagnostic and repair, I thought Id seek some additional input here.
More details:
So far, Ive had the draft inducer motor replaced and the coils cleaned. Ive also changed the filter (to the least restrictive) , and had the limit switches reset. The one company that did that, said this would resolve my issue. It did not. Ive been told by another company that my heat exchanger is crack and that is the issue, but a different company said the exchanger is fine and theres no flame rollout.
A third company said my furnace is too large for the property and I need to add an additional intake register, which might resolve the issue. They want to replace the entire systemrefusing to repair.
All companies have said the blower motor and fan are fine (not dirty and properly functioning).
The unit and the ducting intake and output were all installed around the same time by professionals. There is a long install and work history written down for the unit. While I dont assume everyone does everything right all the time, I would hope the unit would have functioned properly at some point in time, which makes it seem like the air intake volume might not be the (only) issue.
Any thoughts on the issue would be welcome, also any questions that I can specifically ask the technicians to help get to the bottom of it would be great.
