Speaking purely in terms of cost-effectiveness, ease of installation and use, a small airconditioning unit would be perfect to heat my bathroom (and generally that side of the house). I specifically want electric heating, as it's a (partly wooden) cottage I rent to tourists and I need to choose the safest possible solution (no open flames, gas etc.) and a maintenance-free one (no need to add fuel etc.). I already installed two big units in the two biggest rooms, and they work great, but the bathroom, kitchen and one small bedroom that are on the other side of the house, so to speak, have to be heated with good old electric heaters, which are of course super expensive. And people in this part of the world are often used to very high indoor temperatures, sometimes even 25C, which I really don't get, but, well, I want people to be comfortable. I will invest in a big solar array this spring, about 10Kw of capacity (in my country the grid works as a battery - 80% of the surplus from the summer is given back in the winter), but if I don't do something about heating the other part of the house, this won't be enough. So - is it at all feasible to install a split airconditioner in a bathroom? The only problem I can think of (though there may be many more) is how it would deal with high levels of humidity. I could mitigate it somewhat by having it turn off when shower is in use or, in any case, it wouldn't be loaded very much - the house is never used for more than 50% of the time in fall and winter months. I should add that the bathroom is not very small (about 8sqm) and there would be no risk of water splashing directly on the unit if placed correctly. Is this a good idea? Do some units handle moisture better than others? What should I look for in a unit for this deployment? Does anyone have some experience with a config like that? Thanks a lot!
