Hi all!
Please talk me off a ledge... I'm miserable.
I live in a small home with a furnace directly below the living room in an unfinished basement.
Our old Thermopride died over the winter and we had someone install a Conforto from Granby Industries (in CT) with a Beckett burner.
The installer has been out to make adjustments and insists that all the noise I am hearing is normal...
This furnace is WAY louder than our old one. It scares me every time. The worst is the noise upon startup, when the flame ignites, and there's a loud thud that lightly shakes the floor and can be heard on the other side of the house. It's the moment the flame goes on. The whirring of the burner is also annoying, but I can live with it. The startup boom is something I can't get used to.
Installer confirmed this isn't delayed ignition and it's just a high efficiency furnace doing its job. Can anyone please confirm? The Thermopride never started with this kind of kick. I assume a new furnace would be a quiet joy.
What can I even do at this point?... is there any way to soundproof this apart from finishing my basement? Can the furnace be encased with any sound proofing materials or be slightly lifted and have something put underneath?
Will the sound just travel through the ducts anyway? Also, I assume that the vibrations I'm feeling in the living room are due to the fact that the ductwork directly above the furnace is attached to the floor joists.
Thank you for your advice!
