York TM9E furnace, this has been going on for a while. Unit will run after 15 minutes have 6 red flashes and locks itself for 1 hour. The unit is around 1 years old and we are having a hard time getting the HVAC company back. This problem probably always happened but the house is extremely well insulated and we didn't notice until really cold days.
I have the manual I took my multimeter to the pressure switches both seem fine and there are no condensation leaks. I read the unit create negative back pressure to create a air tight seal, I can actually feel this when I put my hand on the outside cover.
Today before I just cave and call a different company, and eat the guestimate a few hundred in labor as parts are warrantied per York, I go and look at the unit and notice where the coil and the furnace meet there is no mastic or tape going down that long seam. I put my hand there and air warm is just flowing out. Every other seam has mastic and I checked my other furnace same make and model and there is mastic over that seam. I think to myself being that i'm not a HVAC pro, maybe the leaking air is messing with the negative pressure of the unit or its being forced to work to hard and it's shutting down. I didn't have any foil tape, I used some hockey tape as its flexible and can be easily removed. I sealed off that joint as best as I could and stopped most of the leaking air. I turned on the heat when house was 65 set it to 70. 30 min later that floor was 70 unit ran as it should and turned off.
Was this just a coincidence or could that not sealed seam actually caused this problem? It will get into low 20's here tonight I will be testing it then again. Normally it will run at 65 get to 66 if lucky and then turn off after 15 min wait an hour repeat until 9am when when the thermostat drops it to 63 during the day and never goes on.
