Hello
We have a 1 stage Tempstar furnace that is about 20 years old. We have an Ecobee thermostat system. In the past few weeks our furnace has intermittently not fired up. When a call for heat occurs the pilot light lights up but the gas does not light . If I turn off the heat call via thermostat it does not work. If I turn power off to the furnace then back on the call for heat works- pilot lights and gas flows and lights. The furnace works for a few days but the issue then reoccurs. We did have a technician come but he could not determine the issue as the furnace was working at the time.
My questions:
1. Any idea what would cause this issue and how to fix? Would a new control board likely fix it. We likely will replace the furnace but would like a bit of breathing room to investigate that so a short term fix is acceptable
2. If we get a new furnace we want a system that will work with the ecobee. From my read it seems that ECM motors will not work well with ecobee but a non ECM multi speed motor would? Is this correct
