Ductless condenser with conventional furnace/coils

I live in Oregon and resisted adding AC when the house was built. The HVAC installer at the time said he would add the coils to the carrier furnace (standard unit with ducts) in case we wanted AC later. It is now six years later and we need the AC. The original installer retired so we’ve brought in new companies. The area is 1300 sqft and the original coils are 3 ton. Based on what I’ve learned here, I think 3 ton is overkill so I’d rather have a quiet 2 ton unit. One of the installers suggested using a ductless condenser with the conventional carrier unit after swapping in smaller coils and adding a relay module. In Oregon, this won’t need to run more than a few weeks each summer. Is it crazy to use a ductless condenser with a standard system?
