Hi HVAC forum, my father and I installed two Daikin mini splits last year at my house. He brought his YJ vacuum pump and manifold gauge set but neither were working properly. The vacuum pump had a broken pump coupling (it was so quiet) and his manifold gauges had rotted rubber or missing gaskets in at least one hose. Go figure... we hooked it up and nothing appeared to happen after 30 min on the main mini split unit.
So he said it wasn't that big of a deal. I've used both systems maybe a total of 75-150 hours (rough estimate). Hopefully no long term damage was done. Basically neither system was vacuumed at all.
Fast forward to today, I decided to overhaul the AC system on my own vehicle. I have a JB DV-85N 3cfm two stage pump on hand but my manifold gauge set is only for R134a. Is it too late for me to still go ahead and pull a vacuum to have the system running optimally? If not, please recommend the items needed to properly pull vacuum. CPS or Blu-vac micron gauge? Appion valve core removal tool(s)? Which "T" fitting to attach micron gauge? Which vacuum rated hose?
Unfortunately I can't post links but if you go to Youtube, one and type in "Daikin mini split vacuum". On the first page there are two titles:
"Mini-Split Heat Pump: Vacuum Procedure Using a Micron Gauge (Blu-Vac)"
"Steps to Vacuum and Charge Refrigerant on a Mini Split Unit! (CPS gauge)"
Please let me know which setup is more ideal. Any tips or rec's are greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!
