Hi,
I have an Aprilaire 600 bypass humidifier installed on my furnace return duct. The drain hose is a 1/2" flexible tube that runs to a drain in the basement floor. The flexible tube is not secure and would be easy to kink causing flooding, so I want to add a 1" rigid pvc drain to the system to prevent this. Is a trap required for this situation?
My AC coil drains into the same floor drain and also does not have a trap. The AC drain pipe comes straight out the coil into a T, the top of the T is open and a lot of conditioned air escapes. The bottom of the T leads to the floor drain. I would like to add a trap here to prevent loosing conditioned/heated air. The combustion drain is also routed to the floor drain via a separate pipe.
All equipment is top-of-the line Rheem communicating, professionally installed.
In summary my questions are:
1. Does the humidifier's 1/2" ID drain require a trap?
2. If so, can a single trap be shared with the humidifier and coil? (would be nice to keep the trap wet year-round)
Big Thanks!
