york yhm heat pump

Hi,

I have two heat pumps in my house, one serves the basement and main floor, and there's a heat pump in the unconditioned attic space that serves the upstairs. The attic heat pump needs to be replaced.

I have had a couple contractors take a look, and nobody sees a reason to switch away from York, and I'm ok with that.

I'm trying to decide if the YHM with modulating compressor is a good idea. The alternatives I'd be looking at, the single stage 14 or 16 seer, and the two stage 19 seer, seem self-explanatory about their benefits - but I can't find very much information about the YHM with the modulating compressor. it seems like this is a great middle ground, not requiring the expense and potential complications of it being a communicating unit, but offering most of those benefits. Does anyone here have much experience with the YHM or can offer any advice about how it works and whether that unit is a good investment. Does it do what it seems like it should do despite being non-communicating? It modulates from 50-100% based on thermostat call and a sensor in the outdoor unit? I assume it would still work with my ecobee? Are there downsides of this type of unit vs the others I listed, besides expense?

Thanks for any info or insight you might have about it.
