Hi I am working on a small residential system and I have a question on supply trunk velocity. My main trunk will be sized to either 14ā round at 740 ft/min or 12ā round at 1000 ft/min for a short 25 ft run in unconditioned attic. I know Manual D recommends 700-900 ft/min so it looks like both sizes are borderline. My gut says go bigger duct for lower friction (not that 25 ft is long by any means) but I thought Iād check with the experts here. My branch ducts are all sized to about 400-500 ft/min so there will be no major noise in the branches. I just want to make sure that there is enough velocity in the main trunk.
