Hey my fellow HVAC techs and DiYers,
Im manly an electrician, but do lots of plumbing and hvac as well. Ive installed a ton of "Mini Split" type systems in the past. But ive never seen this problem before...
*** WHOLE STORY *** (MAIN QUESTIION / PROBELM BELOW)
I installed a brand new Mr. Slim unit made by Mitsubishi that i had in my warehouse for a couple years, into my mothers place last year down in Florida. The system works great and does about 80% of the cooling and heating. But soon after i installed it, the next winter she would call me saying that she would have it on heat mode set to lets say 73degrees and a while later the house would be boiling hot and the Regular HVAC thermostat would show 80+ degrees.... I had figured that she just wasn't setting the controls properly ...
I just came down to visit her and i notice shes not using the Mr. Slim to heat the house.. she says it works great to cool the house but seems to never turn off if she sets it to heat mode...
Well she's correct.
***** MAIN PROBLEM*****
If i set the unit to heat, below the current temperature, the unit acts normal and only kicks on when the house temp drops below the set temp but then just continues to run non stop well above the set temperature. after the house got up to 82 degrees i picked up the remote and started to lower the set temp. and as im lowering it, i can here the unit then change and stop producing heat.
Same thing happens if i turn the unit to heat and raise the set temp higher then the current house temperature, the unit starts producing heat and again doesn't stop making heat until you manually lower the set temp or turn off heating mode...
so basically the unit will kick on when the temp drops below the set temp but then will not turn off when the house temp rises above the set temp and will just keep pumping out heat.
Has anyone encountered this problem before or maybe know what is wrong / faulty? Again this unit was brand new and has always had this issue. Only when set to heat... A/C mode works just fine and doesn't have this "thermostat issue"... Which is why it doesnt make alot of sense. Obviously the internal thermostat is working fine but the unit will just not turn off when set temp is reached on heat mode.
Thanks
