Recently my thermostat keeps having an error message of Aux heat but I do not have a heat pump and have lived here just under 10 years. The first time it happened I thought it was due to using an allergen filter, MERV 5, so I removed it and put the basic filter I have used for years; MERV 2. The error message will come and go and it took an hour today to get the AUX heat message to turn off from the thermostat, but now the furnace will not complete a cycle. The flame turned off before it went up the 1 degree to the set temperature; outside temperature has been a steady 35 degrees. This issue only happens when the AUX heat error message comes on. In between these error messages the furnace works fine. Does anyone know what could be the issue.. furnace, thermostat, control board etc.?
