Ready to pull the trigger on a new HVAC system for a 1600 sq ft ranch style home in Eastern NC, Trane equipment is spec'ed. Debating between a single vs 2-speed condensing unit coupled with a variable speed natural gas furnace (S9V2) and a Trane XL824 thermostat. Current system is an oversized 3.5 ton heat pump, house cools but doesn't humidify. Summer temperature set point of 75 degrees will often have 60-62% relative humidity.
Salesman from local mechanical contractor is telling me that the single stage condensing unit will suffice with the variable speed blower with improved duct system proposed. I'm skeptical and leaning towards the 2-speed condensing unit for both energy efficiency and humidity control.
Would appreciate insight on the pro's and con's of single vs 2-speed condensing units for humidity control. Want to install the right equipment the 1st time and have a comfortable home year round.
Thank you in advance.
