We recently purchased a new Lennox EL280UH090XE48B 2 stage gas furnace (88k BTU) to replace our 22 year old single stage furnace (don't have info on the old one). I know my name is FargoGuy, but we've moved and now live on the Central California Coast, Single level 2400 sq ft home, about 1/2 house with 10 ft ceiling and other half with 12-14 ft ceilings. About half of our original double pane windows have been replaced by newer ones. House is 22 years old. Original duct work and 2 return air's used (2 14x24's - At least that was size of filters, we now have a whole house filter installed by furnace). Dealer said original stuff was good based on load tests.
Our install was completed this past Friday. 1st morning we ran it, I woke up and house was 61 degrees. It took an hour to raise the temp 1 degree, and 2 hours to raise it 3 degrees. We have a nest thermostat, and as part of the install they had to run another wire for the 2nd stage. The first day running you can't feel any air and the whole house feels cold. We called the dealer and they came out yesterday. They said even though the thermostat said 2nd stage, it was kicking into it. And they said they had to "jump" it to wake it up and it should be fine now. So this morning, we wake up with house at 62. After 1 hour house is at 64, after 2 hours house is 66. And again, it just feels cold. (Both days it was low to mid 30's outside). The guys who came out said we should not expect to feel the air flow with new furnace and basically we have to get used to it and turn on the furnace earlier. At the rate this furnace heats up we would have to turn it on at 3:30 to get it up to 68 by 7am, doesn't seem right.
For reference, our neighbors with the same floor plane had a Bryant (90k BTU, 80% efficiency, basically same as ours) installed within a week of us and are not having same issues. They did say the one things their installed did do, that ours did not was put in larger return air's.
The original crew was great with install, but the guys that came out yesterday seemed like they just wanted to get out of our house before they got there and kept telling us they could feel air flow, when we could not. So, any thoughts on how to approach the dealer on this issue? Have them come back out? If so, any thoughts on what to ask of them? Is this just what 2 stage furnaces are and we should get used to it?
