I recently had a new Trane system installed with an S9X2 furnace, XR16AC and 4PXC coil.
After the installation, I noticed a significant air leak (venting under pressure when the system/fan was running, coming from around the condensate drain from the coil and also though the condensate pipe itself where it was originally open at the top. These air leaks were not small, they were as if a hole was drilled into the duct and would blow a lighter out.
I requested my dealer (A Trane Comfort Specialist) evaluate the air leaks as I would've expected some kind of trap or valve in the coil condensate line. I never was given an explanation as to the cause or if that much air should be leaking. After the service visit, the coil had putty around the condensate pipe (no biggie) but I was surprised to see a new tube run from the condensate pipe vent into the combustion air intake line.
Should there be a connection for pressurized air coming from the coil through the condensate line to the combustion air pipes? Could that be a CO risk? Should there be a trap in the condensate line to stop the loss of conditioned air? Or Is this correct and I'm wrong?
Should conditioned air be flowing out of my condensate line?
Thanks in advance for your evaluation and advice. Russ
