Gas Line Installation on Residential Carrier Package Unit

Hi,

Last week we had a new combination unit gas/furnace installed outside our home. This is the second unit we've had installed since moving here in the 80s. Our previous unit was a Lennox and the heat exchanger was rusted out. So we chose a new Carrier, with a better warranty and really looked forward to getting it. But this doesn't seem like the ideal install.

They've routed the gas line (see photos) all the way around the front of the unit. No one asked me, but I'd have preferred they went over the back if that was possible.

The problem is we move garbage and recycling bins through here regularly and drive a riding mower through this area during the summer. It also makes changing the filer which we do every 4 months difficult as the pipe is running in front of the filter panel. We live near a well traveled commuter road and I don't think the 1-inch filters this comes with are going to last 6 months when we have regular service checks. I told the installers about my reservations, but I have not pursued this with the owner.

The County Inspector comes Wednesday and I will ask them but I'd like to have some pro thoughts beforehand.

My Questions:
Does Carrier only make this unit with gas hookup on the right-hand side or did someone just order or ship the wrong unit?

Does this install meet code?

Thanks. Raeben
