Good morning HVAC community. I've got some deep concerns on my homes AC unit. Let me give you some details on what's cooking. New build home in Texas that's 5 years old. 2 carrier 16 SEER 3TON units. 1 for upstairs and one for downstairs. This June, the wife calls and the ac isn't working. When I get home I replace the run capacitor. All fixed for a month. Then the unit is running but the fan isn't spinning fast. Trouble shoot that a bad fan can kill the cap. So while replacing the fan I see that the contactor is cooked as well. it shows signs it was installed badly, only 1/2 of the copper threads actually were under the screw plate, and has begun to melt one of the poles so I replace it AND the fan motor.
Now tonight its very mild out and I hear the fan running but not the compressor. I check the thermostat and its set to auto and its under the run temp. Odd...so I click it to run and the compressor kicks on, cold air comes out. I click it to OFF and the compressor turns off but the fan on the unit stays on. Sounds like another run capacitor but its only been 4 months. Thoughts?
