gas furnace circuit board or something else

So when I set my thermostat to temperature for heat often nothing happens. Occasionally it will kick on and reach the set temperature. Often times in the middle of the night I look and see thermostat is set to 70 for example and the temperature of the house is like 65 (nothing turns on). When set to 70 (or any other temperature) in the past when it hit 69 the furnace would turn on and heat to 70. The only way for it to work is to keep turning the furnace on/off. I bought a new thermostat and changed it out but I'm having the same problem. Is this likely the circuit board issue at the furnace or possibly a bunch of other reasons? Thanks guys.
