Thermostat Setback with Dual Fuel Configuration

Hey guys, I need your input. I'm located in NY and have a Bosch Bova inverter driven heat pump as our primary heating source with an 80% natural gas furnace as backup heat. We use the heat pump because we have an excess of solar power.

My question is, does it make sense to maintain the temperature overnight or set back 5 degrees and allow the natural gas furnace to recover?

I don't mind paying for the furnace to recover the temperature in the morning. My concern is that even though less electricity would be used overnight due to the decreased heat loss, I fear that the heat pump would run a good deal after the furnace brought the temperature back up in the morning potentially negating any overnight savings.

I know with setbacks in the past, the stat usually catches up to the setpoint but then shortly after, as the objects in the home absorb the heat, the stat calls again for a while.

I don't want to wind up paying for natural gas and save no electricity when I could just maintain the setpoint overnight. We will have a need for some of the excess electricity we produce in the future so I'd like to optimize how we use the heat pump.

Thanks a lot for your help.
