Hi there.
The rental house I live in has a 2-yr old Bryant gas furnace (model: 925SA60100E21A-B). When I went to change the filter last week, I noticed that the furnace did not have a dedicated space for the filter, and I thought that was strange. When I found the manual, I discovered that a "media filter cabinet" comes with this furnace. That was not installed here, seemingly for the lack of space, or the need to avoid additional work of changing ductwork. The installer simply folded a filter that was too large and shoved it next to the fan.
What I'm hoping to find out here is:
1. Is it OK to install this unit without the "media filter cabinet"?
2. If the answer to question 1 is "Yes", then is it acceptable to install the filter by simply putting it between the fan and duct? You can see how the installer did it in the photos.
Any additional information/resolution about this that will help me inform the landlord or fix this myself is highly appreciated.
Thanks!
