Hi,
We have been receiving quotes and speaking with local businesses about replacing our current 20 year old HVAC equipment. We just moved into this house in Jan 2020 and have installed a solar system. Currently, the furnace is running off propane.
We were planning on going with a traditional unit and keeping the furnace running off propane, but the third company we spoke to mentioned the Daikin VRV system and installing an electric heat pump in the attic to get us off propane. This obviously intrigued me as I never realized it was possible to efficently get off the propane and the cost of propane is pretty expensive. I have never heard of a Daikin VRV system, so he went into detail about how you have to be certified by Daikin to install these systems and Daikin is constantly training companies on installing these units. The unit quoted is RXTQ60TAVJU and fxtq60tavjua. I was pretty excited about the quote and began to research these units to learn more about them.
Because this is a new technology (to me) I went on Daikin's website and found local installers that I could speak with as well. I have now met with two more companies, and both of them recommend the Daikin Fit system. Being that I don't understand the technology, what is the difference between the Daikin Fit and the Daikin VRV (layman's terms please) :).
The final company I spoke to actually called the regional Daikin rep on the phone and we spoke for a few minutes. He told me I need to be careful because only a couple local companies are allowed to install the Daikin VRV Life systems in the area. He told me the model number should begin with RXSQ and this will be the real Daikin equipment and that the model number RXTQ is not Daikin equipment, but rather Goodman being sold as Daikin VRV Life. Is this the case? In the end, both the engineer that was onsite and the Daikin rep both recommended the Daikin Fit system for our install and said the VRV would be about $ more (roughly).
Can anyone try and clarify any of my questions? Is the difference in model number from RXSQ and RXTQ really a big difference? Would the Fit system be the best choice? Is there a difference between the Daikin VRV Life and Daikin VRV IV S Series? We are not running multiple zone or installing any wall units. The currently install ducting is in good shape and will be utilized for either of the new systems.
We are in a 2500 square foot house and are planning on going with a 5 ton unit.
Thank you in advance.
