Went to the VA and spoke to some of my buddies who were engineers and they all reviewed my proposal and gave me blessing. So, good to proceed. Most of them mentioned a few things which I was asked to confirm.
It seems everything being equal, i.e. good quality product installed by a top-notch installer, good duct-work and correct HVAC sizing coupled with regular scheduled maintenance should give my new family years of good experience. However, usually its almost always the cooling unit (outside) which tends to give out first. Thus they recommended a few small little things.
I am going with Arcoaire HSA6 2 tons
Try to make sure the outside or rather the cooling unit has:
1. OEM filter drier provided ---> confirmed as available.
2. Has BOTH high and low pressure switches ---> confirmed as available.
3. The service valves are easily accessible ---> confirmed as available.
4. The fan motor can be easily serviced ---> confirmed as available.
5. Preferably the compressor is sound managed via blanket ---> confirmed as available.
6. Outside / external temperature sensor and coil temp. sensor. ---> what is this? how does it help?
7. Has pressure equalizer valve for easy maintenance ---> what is this? how does it help?
8. Compressor discharge temperature sensor ---> what is this? how does it help?
9. Suction pressure transducer ---> what is this? how does it help?
10. Phase monitor with surge control installed where disconnect is located? ---> what is this? how does it help?
11. Calibrated hard-start kit ---> what is this? how does it help?
12. Absolutely level the platform where the unit is located and try to maximize weather protection without sacrificing air flow.
They said these will help ensure slightly better compressor protection and maint. which can give me few more years of benefit.
If there's anything else I should ask please let me know. Another thing they pointed out was 1 of the biggest problem they used to face was the R410 escaping and then they switched to factory provided line sets which was plug-in-play. Not sure they said if residential HVAC has such available line-sets. Another thing they said to install it as-if its a commercial install and get all the additional bells and whistles.
