House has three zones 1st floor, 2nd floor and the basement with single HVAC unit.
I see only two return ducts connected to unit. One for the first floor and the other for the second floor.
The supply side has three separate ducts for each zones with dampers.
Then I find out the return for the basement is connected to return of the 1st floor since it its running across the basement ceiling.
Is this by design or someone took a shortcut?
